Losing developmental milestones?

A study published in the December issue of Neuropsychology Review examined the phenomenon of Regressive Autism (RASD), in which a child develops normally for the first 18 to 24 months and then begans to lose language or social skills. The researchers estimate that 25 to 30 percent of children diagnosed with autism may actually have RASD. Research in the area is made difficult by the fact that parents often do not recall the exact timing of the regression, which can occur over a prolonged period of time. One important clue for parents: if the child no longer responds to his or her own name. Lost developmental milestones are a key feature that parents should take seriously, as they may be indicators that something is amiss. Could RASD be behind the apparent vaccination - autism link? More research is required.
